INTERDEPARTMENTAL GAMES
WITH ALFONSO BORRAGAN
DEPARTMENTALLY-ENGAGING INTERACTIVE EXPERIMENT
SWANSEA METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY, APRIL 2013

Interdepartmental Games was the culmination of a weeklong project based around the concept of play, with Spanish artist Alfonso Borragán.

Six segregated departments of an education establishment were brought together by competition - an
exploration of division through collaboration, in which members of the chosen establishment were introduced to the rooms, corridors and inhabitants of other departments previously unknown to them.
24 balloons filled with flour were divided between six departments. Each department had 1 hour to get rid of their balloons by placing them in the studio of another department, while making sure their own studio remained free of balloons deposited by other departments.

The generosity of spirit in which the games were played by all departments suggested a willingness to interact, perhaps planting a seed for future collaborations.
