POKING THE BEAR
SIX-WEEK RESIDENCY
ELYSIUM GALLERY, AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2013

A six week residency at Elysium Gallery, Swansea incorporating a series of invite-only performative events which culminated in a show exhibiting the work and documentation from the six-week process.

 

At each of the invite-only events, hosted by collaborative artists Jason & Becky, guests were asked to discuss the topics of power and corruption through a hierarchy-based table game involving name counters, free food and alcohol. The events were documented via an overhead camera which took a photo every 30 seconds, as well as a two-hour long audio recording of the entire evening. 

 

The entire audio recordings from the events were transcripted chronologically into one dialogue, replacing the identities of all concerned with either 'Jason' or 'Becky'. This transcript was then edited down to an 8-minute-long script, which was performed by Jason & Becky at the show culminting the six-week residency.
