CIVIC in Venice: Week Two

Our first mapping workshop was really interesting - and much more participatory than expected. The workshop was devised as a way for us to explore Venice through both its residents and visitors, with 8 coloured pens each representing a feeling, enabling participants to colour in a section of the map, composing an emotional geography of the city. The workshop has turned into a much more durational process, however, instead of ending at the set time we had planned. This has been really nice, and has given us a non-language-specific platform from which to begin new dialogues with visitors and friends of the Casa Dell’Ospitalita as and when they drop in, adding to the map. This visual form of communication has proved useful as a tool to any language barriers - and across nationalities – as tourists and residents have all experienced feelings here, no matter how long their stay.
