Thinking about the kinds of things that went on during the Blitz despite the restrictions placed on everyday behaviour, like the swapping of comics, the letter writing, the small acts which kept people connected and kept spirits up. We're considering this in relation to our own 'Lockdown' in the era of the pandemic, and how we've kept in touch, as a nation, with physical restrictions in place. There are comparisons to be made between both times, like school closures, the wearing of masks and general uncertainty, but we're interested in the small ways in which life carried on during such adversity, and how communication was key in that, making links between the letter-writing and comic-swapping of the Blitz time with our recent use of social media platforms and digital connectivity software in lockdown, such as Instagram, Zoom, Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook etc.
